Measuring for an awning.
If you have a manual for your caravan, you will often find a catalogue size or measurement suggestions in there. If you do not have a manual then it can be quite a daunting prospect to decide which is best.
Different awning manufacturers use different size ranges, but follow this simple guide and you should be confident in your purchase.

Put the caravan on level ground.

Around the outside of your caravan is an awning rail.

Take a piece of string weighted at on end and thread the string from the ground at point A as shown in the picture above, around the awning rail and down to the ground at point A on the other side.

Measuring for a porch awning.
To measure your van for the correct height of porch awning, measure from the awning channel located above the door down to the ground level.
